The racist attack of 19th February 2020 in Hanau, Hessen, shook German society nationwide. The photo essay “The Long Days of Hanau” accompanies friends and relatives of those murdered in Hanau after the tragic incident: while an entire city is still in shock at the end of February, solidarity groups and initiatives develop in the coming months to support the survivors of the attack in Hanau. The phase of mourning develops into a phase of anger and the desire for change. The photographic work provides intimate access to the families and friends affected, who have all lost important people in their lives.

Repeatedly threatened by Russian airstrikes targeting civilian infrastructure and homes, the people of the Ukrainian capital face a long winter full of uncertainties and a future that no one can predict. Kyiv, since the outbreak of the Russian full-scale invasion, has been a symbol in this war: of Ukraine‘s resilience, suffering and success. There are currently several important voices saying that Russia will again try to take Kyiv with a large- scale attack in the coming months, which puts further psychological pressure on the population. The photographic work documents protagonists across society:&#38;nbsp; Soldiers returning wounded from the front, civilians enduring the cold winter, despite destroyed energy infrastructure. Young students who now pick up a gun for the first time in training, feeling guilty that their friends have been fighting and risking their lives for months. People who are living in constant uncertainty because relatives or life partners are in Russian captivity, without contact to the outside world. The price many Ukrainians are paying for their freedom is high.

How does it feel to grow up as a young person in wartime? Some of the young people want to stay, others can not leave Ukraine, some have returned from neighboring countries. After weeks of siege in February and March 2022, more and more life is returning to the Ukrainian capital Kyiv. The first theater rehearsals take place again, music clubs organize flea markets instead of rave parties. The first reunion at the bathing lake, the first concert to benefit the Ukrainian military. Many young people have returned after fleeing Kyiv for safety reasons in the first days of the war. Now, often after weeks or even months, they are back to support their homeland and try to live in their new normality as best they can.While Kyiv has been considered comparatively safe in Ukraine in recent weeks, the future here still remains uncertain. The work “Youth of Kyiv” gives a voice to young people in this particular phase of their lives and documents their new daily events and routines.

The photo-essay “Safetyzone 2” documents the side stages of the OSCE and G20 political summits, which took place in Hamburg, Germany (December 2016 &#38;amp; July 2017). The pictures, published by the major media players, concentrated mostly on the escalating violence and shaped the subsequent discussions for months thereafter. Actually, many central summit questions took a back seat. Fabian skipped these well-known pictures and wants to invite the viewer to an alternative reflection of the events in Hamburg.

Tamera – a place, a community, a lived utopia. The project started in Germany in 1978 and found a new home in the south of Portugal in 1995. Over 200 inhabitants plus a various number of long-term guests constantly live in this community – in the search for free love, world peace and a holistic life in harmony with nature. Many of the inhabitants have German roots and have lived in the community for more than half of their lives. Some were even born in the settlement and don’t have much experience in life outside of Tamera. The “Tamerians” themselves call their place a “healing biotope”, which should be seen as a model for more settlements in the world. The Tamera community has connections and networks all over the world, doing peace work and sharing experience on research and community living. The Tamerians see their “Healing Biotope 1” as a prototype, knowing that they are still not perfect when it comes to self-supply of food, for example, which is self-sustainable up to 30%. Furthermore, the community wants to stay dynamic in the future, giving statements about current political or ecological developments and realizing peace projects in crisis regions. Many visitors come to Tamera every year to learn for instance about community building or the successful ecosystem restoration using the principles of rainwater retention. The area is about 330 acres large and consists of different sections – the solar valley, a guest and education centre, the political ashram, the children´s school, the stone circle, many gardens and workshops. Tamera is admired worldwide by other communities for having existed for over 40 years, while many other communities fail or divide after the first few years. The basic principles of community ownership, a strong open communication and the trust in their spiritual leaders seem to be the main pillars for this success.

grew up between 
a perfect franconian small town, austrian mountain scape and so called „no-go areas“ in Germany. Shaped by insights into different cultures and ways of life, he is interested in social phenomena and tensions of society. Today, he focuses on those topics with artistic and documentary approaches.&#38;nbsp;
Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine in 2022, he has been concerned with the impact on people on the ground. Fabian has completed a HEFAT training program among other security tranings.

From 2019, he holds an BA in photography

 from the 'University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Dortmund' and is working as a freelance documentary photographer in Europe. Fabians work has been published in major international media outlets.
